Library would like your feedback on Faculty of 1000 Biology

December 3rd, 2009 by Keir Reavie

The library is considering cancellation of Faculty of 1000 Biology (F1000) and would like to obtain feedback on the value of this resource for your research and teaching.

The UC Davis Library had initially licensed F1000 for two and a half years. The license renewal is due on January 1, 2010. By licensing F1000 for the two and a half years in advance, the library has not seen any price increases to the annual subscription. The renewal for 2010 license has a 10.25% price increase. The library considers it important to review the value of any resource with such a high price increase that has an ongoing subscription cost, particularly at this time of reduced budgets.

F1000 does not provide access to new research content. It is a literature awareness tool that provides expert opinion on the importance of specific research papers, most of which are accessible to the UC Davis community through other library negotiated licenses.
