SIAM to release modernized set of LaTeX2e Macro files for use with its journals

From: Frank W. Kunkle <Kunkle@SIAM.ORG>:

On January 5, SIAM (Society for Industrial & Applied Mathematics) will release a significantly modernized set of LaTeX2e Macro files for use with 11 of our journals. A corresponding upgrade to macros for our 4 exclusively online journals will follow.

The revised SIAM Standard Macro set includes such new features as cross-referencing commands with hyperlinking, integrated support for supplemental materials, the automatic generation of bookmarks corresponding to section headings, and the ability to generate PDF files directly with PDFLaTeX and PostScript via LaTeX and DVIPS.  A “review” mode with line numbers and colored links to assist referees and editors is now supported and its use encouraged.  Bibliography support has been updated for DOI, URL, EPRINT, and arXiv references.  The macro file package includes greatly improved and expanded guide and example files, along with an additional template file for supplementary materials.

This work has been completed in tandem with an initiative to support PDFLaTeX, allowing journal authors to submit figures in PDF, JPEG, PNG, and EPS format. Previously, SIAM asked authors to provide figures in EPS format alone.

A committee led by Tammy Kolda and consisting of Nick Gould, Doug Arnold, and Randy LeVeque worked with SIAM staff members James Haines and Kelly Thomas to make the upgrades possible.
