NCBI to assist UC Davis in hackathon (was in June, now postponed until Fall)
June 13th to 15th, [postponed until Fall] NCBI will assist the University of California Davis in hosting a biomedical data science hackathon in Davis, CA, focusing on advanced bioinformatics analysis of next generation sequencing data and metadata. This event is for students, postdocs, investigators and other researchers already engaged in the use of pipelines for genomic analyses from next-generation sequencing data or metadata.* Researchers and/or data scientists from the west coast of the United States are especially encouraged to apply, but the event is open to anyone selected for the hackathon, and able to travel to Davis.

As noted in our recent update, 2016 is the 25th anniversary of arXiv, an important milestone. We are engaged in a series of vision-setting activities and, as part of this process, we are implementing a user survey to help us improve arXiv and clarify future directions for the service in a way that best serves the user community:

We need your help in reaching out to the user community. Please share the link far and wide and encourage scientists, researchers, and students to complete the survey. If you or your institution is active on social media please post the link freely. The survey will close on April 27. The responses we gather will help us plan the future for arXiv and continue to provide a service that is based on actual user needs and experiences.
